Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Languages of Leesbrook

"Those who know many languages live as many lives as the languages they know." (Czech proverb)

We are very proud of the fact that we have over 30 different spoken languages at Oasis Leesbrook. From Urdu to Italian, from Bengali to Tigrinya - we love to celebrate the cultural diversity we have in our Leesbrook community.

Many of our Leesbrookers are “EAL” students (English as an Additional Language) and can speak multiple languages! Many of our staff are bilingual or even trilingual.

Our Leesbrook Interpreter Programme is just one of the ways we embrace our linguistic talent. Students are selected to be Interpreters after a formal application where they show us their translation and interpreting skills. Our Interpreters help students who are new to the English language settle at Leesbrook, they lead our language of the month programme, and support us at parents’ evenings. They are student leaders who promote our multi-culturalism in all that they do!

Students joining us who are new to English are given a targeted programme of intervention to enable them to fully access the curriculum as soon as possible. They are initially assessed and given an EAL “Band” which allows us to personalise their support. Our EAL Intervention Lead, Ms Firdos, leads our small group and 1:1 English language sessions and also supports some of our EAL students in class.
