Careers and Work Experience
Careers
Intent
Our careers programme at Oasis Academy Leesbrook is designed to equip our students with the knowledge, skills and experiences needed to make informed decisions about their future education and employment. By aligning with the Gatsby Benchmarks, our programme ensures high-quality careers education through employer engagement, work experience, and personal guidance. Our programme is supported with guidance from Positive Steps, a charitable trust that aims to advance the education and training of young people in order to prepare them for working and adult life. Additionally, our programme adheres to the Baker Clause, which mandates that students receive information about all post-16 and post-18 options, including technical education and apprenticeships, ensuring they explore a full range of career pathways.
Implementation
Our careers programme is implemented through a structured long-term plan (click here to download) that ensures students receive continuous layered support and guidance. Weekly CEIAG (Careers, Education, Information, Advice and Guidance) sessions are held in tutor time which help students to explore career pathways, develop employability skills, and understand post-16 and post-18 options. This year we also launched our first annual careers fair, which connected our students with employers, college, universities and training providers. This offered valuable insights into the working work and what a career could look like post education. Additionally, we also organise external events and trips giving students real-world exposure to careers, apprenticeships and further education. This year we are also launching our Year 10 work experience programme which is designed to give all students a hands-on learning opportunity in the real world.
Positive steps
In Year 10 and 11 all our students have access to a very important and informative careers interview with an experienced Careers Advisor from Positive Steps. These interviews take place every Wednesday all day. The interviews take place on a rotate bases to ensure all students are seen and given enough time to discuss & explore their options. If you feel you would like an appointment sooner or to arrange a follow up appointment, please contact Mr Azad. Feel free to contact Adbul Azad from Positive Steps (details below) if you would like further guidance.
Positive Step's current Drop-In Service is Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1.00pm-4.00pm at Union Street, and enquirers can book appointments through the main contact page.

Work Experience
Work experience is essential for our students because it helps them to understand what the world of work is like. Our students will be able to develop important skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving and a whole host of other soft skills. This experience will greatly aid our students when making applications to further education, apprenticeships or future careers. This week will be taking place for all Year 10 students on Monday 30th June to Friday 4th July.
All students must have their placement confirmed by Monday 2nd June which will give Positive Steps enough time to carry out their workplace risk management checks. For guidance surrounding work experience, please see the below video and presentation.
