Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Student Leadership

Intent

Our Student Leadership Team exists to provide every student with a platform for positive change. Through democratic voting and active decision making, our student leaders gain invaluable experience in shaping the community around them. Each leader is dedicated to a specific area; be it charity, culture, inclusion, mental health, or curriculum; and represents a year group to ensure that every voice is heard. By leading meaningful initiatives and events, they drive positive change while developing the skills and confidence needed to become engaged citizens.

Student Leadership Structure

Implementation

For Senior Student Leaders (KS4):
The process begins in the summer term with the submission of an application form. Shortlisted candidates are then invited to an interview with Mrs. Mitchell (AMI) and Mr. Barnes (CBR). During the interview, candidates are evaluated based on their commitment and innovative ideas in key areas, including inclusivity, charity, mental health, culture, and curriculum and literacy.

For Junior Student Leaders (KS3):
The journey starts with an application form, followed by delivering a speech at a school assembly where candidates pitch their ideas to their peers. After these presentations, democratic votes are held to select the student leaders who will represent their year group.

This process not only identifies passionate individuals eager to make a positive impact but also provides a real-world experience in democratic decision-making and leadership.

Student Voice

Our Student Voice exists to ensure that every student has the opportunity to share their thoughts, influence decisions, and shape their school experience. Through open discussions, regular feedback, and dedicated student leaders, we create a culture where opinions are valued and ideas lead to real change.

Our student voice has already brought around real change to our Academy, including changes to our dining structure and our entire menu!

Students have received the opportunity to complete surveys this Academic year allowing them to give honest and open feedback. This plays vital role in our continuous growth. By actively participating in initiatives, students develop confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of community, preparing them to make a lasting impact both in school and beyond.

Other Leadership Opportunities

Alongside our Student Leaders, we also have dedicated Sports Leaders who inspire and encourage participation in physical activity. They take the lead in organising events, coaching younger students, and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle across the school. Sports Leaders are given multiple opportunities in the year to coach Primary School pupils from other nearby schools.

The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programme offers students the opportunity to develop independence, perseverance, and problem-solving skills through a series of outdoor challenges and volunteering experiences. Whether it’s navigating expeditions or giving back to the community, students gain invaluable life skills that prepare them for future success.

Through these leadership opportunities, we empower students to grow as individuals, make a difference, and develop the confidence needed to become active, engaged citizens.
